Meet the Creators of Byron Magazine

By Jessica Humphries and Kate Love

It’s Launch Time

We are your founders and editors, Jessica Humphries and Kate Love. We’re so excited to introduce you to Byron Magazine and welcome you into our community. And that’s why we’re here, really. Byron Magazine is all about celebrating community and connection – two things that, to us, express the true essence of Byron Bay.

So, What is Byron Magazine?

Byron Magazine is an online magazine that shares content that oozes the essence of Byron Bay. Don’t confuse us with other Byron-based publications – we’re not only about the Shire. Our content, instead, aims to represent the vibe of Byron and what we love about it. An alternative way of living and being based on the philosophies that surround some of our favourite things:

  • Meditation

  • Mindfulness

  • Nature

  • Travel

  • Yoga

  • Health and Wellness

  • Philosophy

  • Psychology

  • Community

Kate grew up in the Bay and Jess has been in the area for seven years. What we love about this little corner of the world is the connections we’ve made and the invitation to live outside of the box. In Byron Bay it’s easy to find like-minded friends. It’s easy to escape the nine-to-five grind. The locals in this community are expressive, expansive and emotional. We don’t like small talk. We want to know who you really are. And although Byron itself is growing and evolving everyday, we’re passionate about what it represents and how it’s helped us to find connection, community and a new way of living.

Who are Jess and Kate?

The short version goes something like this:

Kate Love is a writer, traveller and yogi who loves her puppy Honey and is passionate about making a difference in the world. She grew up in the Byron Shire and has spent a big chunk of her life travelling whilst writing for publications like National Geographic and Huffington Post. She is now an editor and writer for Uplift Connect, a popular website that shares stories about spirituality, consciousness, connection and love.

Jessica Humphries is a yoga teacher and writer who is always seeking to live life in the slow lane. She left her corporate career in the big smoke to move to Byron and become a yoga teacher. Now, in addition to teaching yoga, she is the editor of Australian Yoga Journal and a freelance writer. Jess loves to travel too, and was a major contributor to Lonely Planet’s just released wellness travel book.

Our Mission for Byron Magazine

Together, our dream for Byron Magazine is to create a space for ideas to be spread, to inspire others to live a life of fulfilment and to share the things that we feel personally passionate about. While we know that the tactile experience of print can’t be beat, we recognise that our world is changing – but that doesn’t mean that beautiful words need to be left behind. We hope the words of our wisest friends will be read at the end of the day, sitting in the sunshine, with a cup of tea in hand. So sit back, relax, and let us show you The Bay Way.
