Byron Community Centre Embraces Change with New Leadership and Focus on Fundraising
Byron Community Centre Announces Interim Leadership and Expands Focus on Fundraising
The Byron Community Centre is undergoing exciting changes with the announcement of an interim leadership structure following the planned departure of long-term General Manager, Louise O’Connell, on 31 July 2025. After six years of dedicated service, Louise will pass the reins to Operations Manager, Michelle Heuer, who will step into the role of Acting General Manager starting in August.
Michelle, who has been a valued member of the team for six months, will continue in her current role to ensure the stability and continuity of services while guiding the Byron Community Centre through this transition. A permanent General Manager will be appointed within the next six months to ensure the charity’s continued success and leadership.
The Centre is also expanding its focus on sustainability and community engagement by recruiting a new Relationships Manager. This key position will play a crucial role in fundraising, donor engagement, and forging new strategic partnerships to help sustain the Byron Community Centre’s vital work for the long term.
Louise O’Connell shared:
“It has been an incredible honour to serve the Byron community alongside such a passionate and committed team. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, particularly in times of crisis and change. I am confident that the Byron Community Centre is in good hands as it continues to evolve and meet community needs. After a short break overseas, I will return to the Byron Shire to explore new opportunities.”
Michelle Heuer, Acting General Manager, said:
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to step into the Acting General Manager role during this important period. My focus will be on supporting our team, maintaining operational continuity, and ensuring a smooth implementation of the new leadership structure.”
Bruce Clarke, Chair of the Board, added:
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to express our deepest thanks to Louise for her outstanding leadership over the last six years. Her dedication has been pivotal in transforming the Byron Community Centre into the hub of connection and support it is today. This interim structure is a reflection of our commitment to thoughtful leadership transitions, strong governance, and long-term sustainability.”
