New Venue Dayo Café Brings Soulful, Globally Inspired Brunch
OPENS FRIDAY 25TH JULY 2025 – FREE MATCHA TO FIRST 50!
Following the local success of George’s Deli in Kingscliff, much loved local Chef, Johnny Ang, along with his team are opening a second café. Introducing DAYO Cafe. A fresh new breakfast and brunch spot in Tweed Heads South.
Opening to the public on Friday 25th July, DAYO (a Filipino word meaning ‘visitor’) is more than a café. It’s a gathering place for friends, family, work buddies, everyone!
Created by Johnny Ang alongside chefs Kristyn Ang and Jerrika Guiang, DAYO Cafe is grounded in Filipino culture and shaped by years of culinary experience across Asian and Mediterranean kitchens.
“DAYO is really close to our hearts,” says Ang. “In Filipino, it means traveller or visitor, and that’s how we want everyone to feel when they walk in. Like they’ve just arrived somewhere welcoming, where they belong.”
The all-day breakfast and brunch menu takes comfort food global, with standout dishes like Spicy Longanisa Scrambled Eggs and the K-Pop Chicken Waffle, alongside vibrant vegetarian options and locally roasted Ground Control coffee.
Matcha lovers are in for a treat too, with premium Byron Matcha Man blends featured across the drinks menu.
“We didn’t want to create just another café,” Ang explains. “DAYO is built on the dishes we love, the flavours we grew up with and the memories we’ve made in kitchens over the years. It’s food with soul - a little Filipino, a little Mediterranean, a little fun. And meant to be shared.”
DAYO Cafe is designed for connection. A place where locals, travellers and everyone in between can slow down, share a meal and feel at home. The warm, welcoming interior was created by Kobi Smythe (Kobi Concepts), with building by Matt Coakers, branding by Jamie Peters (Mammoth Design) and finishing touches by Sunset Colours Painting.
“George’s Deli will always be our first baby,” says Ang, “but DAYO Café gives us space to slow down and offer something different. It’s a café made for lingering, connecting and starting your day with something beautiful.”
To mark the launch, the first 50 customers on opening day (Friday 25 July) will receive a free Matcha Float, DAYO’s signature iced matcha latte topped with homemade matcha ice cream.
DAYO Café is open 7am to 2pm, seven days a week, and is located118 Wharf Street, Tweed Heads, NSW 2485.
