March Music Madness Month: A Spectacular Lineup at Byron Theatre

March is gearing up for a cultural explosion in Byron Bay, with an abundance of music, film, comedy and more set to grace the stage of the Byron Theatre. Brace yourselves for a whirlwind of entertainment that promises to captivate and inspire.

"One of the highlights of the month-long extravaganza is the Great Southern Nights-sponsored gigs at Byron Theatre, spotlighting a live music focus throughout March," says Theatre Manager Jon Howell, reflecting on the exciting lineup.

“We're thrilled to bring such a dynamic range of performances to the Byron Theatre stage. From local talent to international icons, March Music Madness Month promises something for everyone."

The excitement kicks off on March 1st with a performance by minimalist improvisers, The Necks, marking their only 2024 NSW show outside the Sydney Opera House.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th, Byron Theatre presents "Byron’s Badass Women of Song," featuring local artists Cass Eager, Shelley Brown and Sarah Grant, alongside a special performance from The Material Girls Choir, paying homage to the talent and resilience of women in the music industry.

Prepare yourselves for an electrifying evening on March 9th as New York punk icon Lydia Lunch takes the stage for a spoken word performance, promising a night filled with unapologetic opinions and fierce energy, supported by Joseph Keckler, courtesy of Great Southern Nights.

The musical journey continues with country rock superstars Kingswood on March 15th, accompanied by The Sea Benz, followed by a mesmerising performance by Indian classical music legends Sri Anubrata Chatterjee and Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan on March 16th.

March 20th sees the arrival of Irish folk virtuoso Daoirí Farrell, while Balkan ska aficionados Dubioza Kolektiv bring their infectious energy to the stage on March 21st. The month concludes with a special performance by Yirinda, seamlessly blending ancient Aboriginal language with modern production, invoking the rich tapestry of Australian indigenous culture.

But it’s not just about the music. On March 13th, Byron Theatre hosts "White Rabbit, Red Rabbit," presented by NORPA in association with Aurora Nova, featuring an acting tour de force from Australian comedian and Helpmann award-winning actor Darren Gilshenan. Tickets for this one are sure to disappear fast.

The excitement continues with The Umbilical Brothers on March 24th, promising an evening of laughter and absurdity. Theatre enthusiasts won’t want to miss the screening of National Theatre’s "Vanya" on March 6th, followed by the rescheduled Funny Monday later that evening.

Adventure seekers are invited to a free screening of the adrenaline-pumping film "Rivertree" on March 3rd, courtesy of Patagonia. Meanwhile, EDM enthusiasts can groove to the beats of 1tbsp, PARIS, Jai Piccone, Exxy, DJ Sugarush and Castla at Haven on March 2nd.

Mark your calendars for March 22nd as we celebrate 25 years since the release of "Fight Club" with a special screening followed by a discussion panel featuring prominent figures from the Byron Bay Film Festival and beyond.
