Mullum Roots Festival Kicks Off Soon – Opening Gala Sells Out

The Waifs

With just days to go, excitement is building for the inaugural Mullum Roots Festival, taking place across  Mullumbimby from 12–13 July. The two-day celebration of original music will see over 40 acts perform across intimate local venues - and tickets are moving fast.

The Opening Night Gala on Friday 11 July, featuring Mandy Nolan, Jeff Lang, the Biggest Little Town Choir and 10-piece band Soul’d, has officially sold out. Weekend tickets are still available - but not for long.

The festival is venue-based, with performances spread across the Civic Hall, Ex-Services Club, Courthouse Hotel and the Bowlo. Part of the charm is wandering between venues, soaking up the music and atmosphere while exploring Mullumbimby. Expect spontaneous moments, friendly faces and music around every corner.

The program is as eclectic as the town itself, with festival favourites like The Waifs, Robert Forster, Emily Lubitz, Shane Howard, Claire Anne Taylor, Dog Trumpet and The Soul Movers, joined by a strong contingent of Northern Rivers artists.

Each day brings its own flavour - Psychedelic Saturday features vintage visuals by legendary light artist Ellis D Fogg, while Hootenanny Sunday tips its hat to alt-country and Americana with a laid-back, danceable vibe.

Acclaimed guitarist Jeff Lang, who headlines the sold-out Gala, will also appear in a special Sunday set at  the Mullumbimby Ex-Services Club

“It’s a challenging time for festivals right now, so it’s great to be part of this new event in Mullumbimby. Good people are running it and I hope it gains traction and flourishes. It’s a very healthy addition to the music scene.”

Festival Director Lou Bradley agrees:

“There’s so much heart in this festival – from the musicians and venues to the volunteers and local businesses. We can’t wait to share it.”
