New Zealand’s First Snow Room Brings Alpine Wellness to Hanmer Springs

A new adults-only wellness experience is bringing the invigorating contrast of heat, snow and geothermal waters to New Zealand’s alpine village of Hanmer Springs.

Available to book now, Elemental is a premium contrast therapy experience opening at Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa. Combining a sauna, steam room, snow room and private geothermal pools, the new attraction has been designed for visitors seeking relaxation, recovery and an immersive alpine escape.

At its heart will be New Zealand’s first snow room, inspired by European wellness traditions where alternating between hot and cold environments is increasingly embraced for its restorative qualities.

Unlike anything currently available in New Zealand, the purpose-built space features a custom-designed snow machine that creates fresh, powder-like snow, allowing it to fall from above and settle throughout the room.

Guests will be able to move from the warmth of the sauna or steam room into sub-zero conditions, standing beneath snowfall created in real time.

Following the hot and cold contrast, the experience concludes with a private soak in geothermal waters, offering guests the chance to unwind against the backdrop of Hanmer Springs’ spectacular alpine landscape.
