New Trauma Recovery Programs for Women
Shark Cage and Heartfelt House Groups Starting in Mullumbimby in April/May
Women’s Health Northern Rivers is pleased to announce that two evidence-based therapeutic group programs Shark Cage and Heartfelt House Healing Pathways will be held in Mullumbimby in April and May 2026. Both programs offer trauma-informed support for women who have experienced sexual assault, domestic and family violence, childhood sexual abuse, or other forms of interpersonal trauma.
Meeting a Clear Community Need
Across the Northern Rivers, many women continue to face the long-term impacts of trauma, often without access to safe, specialised spaces to process their experiences. The demand for supportive, professionally facilitated groups has grown significantly in recent years, particularly following the region’s compounding challenges of natural disasters, housing instability and limited mental health services.
Shark Cage and Heartfelt House Healing Pathways provide structured, compassionate pathways for healing, helping participants rebuild confidence, strengthen boundaries and reconnect with a sense of safety and self-worth.
About the Programs
Shark Cage A strengths-based, feminist program designed for women who have experienced sexual assault or domestic/family violence. The program supports participants to understand trauma responses, recognise their rights, and develop tools for boundary-setting and self-protection.
Heartfelt House A therapeutic group for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Delivered over 10 weeks, the program offers a safe, confidential environment to explore the impacts of trauma, reduce shame and build connection with others who share similar experiences. This program is run in partnership with IPARVAN and Medicare Mental Health. Both programs are facilitated by trained counsellors and delivered in small, supportive groups to ensure safety, privacy and meaningful engagement.
Proven Positive Outcomes
Participants in previous groups have reported increased confidence, reduced isolation, improved emotional regulation and a stronger sense of empowerment. Many describe the programs as life-changing, offering a level of understanding and connection they had not found elsewhere.
"Learning in the group has assisted me to now name the abuse that happened to me. This gives a name and creditability to my experience of abuse and the power to act on it for myself." - Shark Cage Program Participant
