Turn Towards New Band Sunflower

A New Era Brings a Fresh and Explosive Sound

With the dawn of a new decade comes a collaboration of musical forces, SUNFLOWER . Immediate main stage festival performances and sold out headliners are just the early foundations paving the way for the group’s highly anticipated debut single, ‘Better Days’.

Composed of Luke Woods (drums), Dan Ferguson (lead guitar), Will O'Keefe (bass), the Brisbane based Australian group is the love child of leading frontwoman Kahlia Ferguson ( fka. The Fergies ) and singer/songwriter Lawson Doyle ( fka. Port Royal ).

Unique Musical Connection

The dynamic pair were fatefully drawn together at Bluesfest 2019 , as showcasing artists on the Delta Stage. Struck by each other's raw talent, the two quickly discovered a unique musical connection through months of songwriting and performing together behind the scenes.

Fortuitously, both lead singers found themselves standing in the ruins of their respective bands within a week of each other. Instead of retreating to lick their wounds, the concept of a brand new act featuring their paradoxical musicality , positive mantra and seductive mystique quickly came to life.

Collectively they have shared stages with the likes of Dead Kennedys (US), Wolfmother , Supersuckers (US), Powderfinger, Jet , Missy Higgins, Busby Marou, Casey Barnes, Sheppard , The Cat Empire, and The Jungle Giants . The band members have showcased across sizeable public events such as Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony , St Kilda Fest, Caloundra Music Fest, Bluesfest, Tamworth CMF and more.

SUNFLOWER carries heavy influence from the prowess, expressionism and freedom of legendary rock outfits Oasis , The Killers, Fleetwood Mac , Coldplay, The Rolling Stones , Joni Mitchell and The Doors.

Their music is a well-crafted fusion of the eclectic tones and grooves of the '60s & '70s, enveloped by their modern energy and hard-hitting lyricism .

Debut Single ‘Better Days’

While many industries are coming to a grinding halt, music and the arts are finding new life through the use of digital media. 'Better Days' is a timeless song for the current climate. With a fresh grasp on the concept of hope, SUNFLOWER are a bold and empowering contrast to certain counterparts of popular music today.

“There’s something about a hopeful song that connects deeper and while this year has been a strange and turbulent one so far, I still feel very hopeful for what the future still has in store. I’m excited to be releasing this song and can only hope it resonates with you as much as it does with us.” - Willow Keith (Bassist and co-writer)

The band is in high demand, having already proven their broad contemporary appeal off the back of their SOLD-OUT debut headline show at Melbourne's Bar Open. Previously this year they've performed on the main stages of St Kilda Fest, Mordialloc Fest, and Knox Fest in Victoria, as well as recently making their hometown debut at Brisbane's Beerfest.

“The whole sentiment of the song is about letting go of your baggage and believing things are getting better. It’s meant to make you feel human and alive.” - Lawson Doyle (Lead singer & co-writer)

With the changing times comes a reimagining of modern music and its interconnection with society, culture and human nature. ‘Better Days’ comes as a timely reminder to have faith in each other and what the future holds, as we all look forward to a time where we can relish and celebrate music collectively once again.

SUNFLOWER is set to stand tall amongst the turmoil ahead of their highly anticipated debut single 'Better Days'.
