Bambu Indah
For plenty of Byron locals, Bali is their chosen place to switch off and recharge. A new recognition from BookRetreats.com shows where investing in your wellbeing can also do some good, from beach clean-ups to child education.
Australians make up 28.1% of Bali bookings on BookRetreats.com, more than any other country.
Sustainability matters to travellers more than ever. In BookRetreats.com’s State of Retreats report, 87% of US travellers said sustainable travel matters to them, and 27% of all bookings in 2025 were climate-friendly.
Yet most Bali venues don’t shout about it. Many quietly fund village causes instead, or run their kitchens and gardens in ways that look after the land, often guided by Tri Hita Karana, the Balinese idea of harmony between people, nature and the spiritual. That’s why BookRetreats.com created Top 100 Retreats for Good: Bali, so travellers can see which places are doing good.
To build it, BookRetreats.com went through 14,086 written guest reviews, all 473 Bali listings on its site, 170 venue websites and the supporter pages of 34 Balinese charities and environmental groups.
REVĪVŌ
Here are just ten of the featured retreat centres on it.
1. Sarinbuana Eco Lodge, Mount Batukaru
On the slopes of Mount Batukaru, Sarinbuana grows organic food for its restaurant, has a chemical-free natural pool and is Gold Verified by Eco Tourism Bali. It supports orangutan and national park conservation, English and dance classes for local children, and the village trekking guides. Guests stay in one of four bungalows, with yoga in a treetop bale, Balinese massage and a wood-fired sauna.
2. Bali Eco Stay, Mount Batukaru
Also on Mount Batukaru, Bali Eco Stay recycles and adds a donation to the local trekking guides association on every trek guests take. It also supports Eco Bali Recycling and the Friends of the National Parks Foundation. Its eight eco bungalows come with yoga, Balinese massage, waterfall trips and workshops.
3. Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort, Munduk
In the hills around Munduk, Munduk Moding runs its own plastic recycling centre for the resort and nearby villages, alongside organic food, solar power and rainwater. It supports river clean-up group Sungai Watch and the Munduk Foundation. Stays range from suites to pool villas, with yoga, a bamboo spa and a wellness and detox package.
Bumi Cinta
4. Serenity Eco Guesthouse, Canggu
In Canggu, Serenity composts, grows its own food and runs plastic-free. It supports Bali Street Mums and the ROLE Foundation, two charities working with women and families. Guests choose from guesthouse rooms or dorms and yoga holidays of two to 30 days with unlimited classes, plus a vegan cafe and Balinese massage on site.
5. Blue Karma, Ubud
Blue Karma runs its own charity, the Blue Karma Children Foundation, across its three Bali properties. Its Ubud resort sits on a hillside above rice paddies and rainforest ravines, with luxury rooms, afternoon tea at the Botanist Restaurant and yoga stays such as a six-day immersion with the mountains in view.
6. Soulshine Bali, Ubud
Soulshine has been holding fundraisers for Bumi Sehat, a free birthing clinic in Ubud, since 2007, and also supports the Green School. It offers personal and group stays of four to eight days, with morning yoga and spa treatments such as Balinese massage included.
7. Bambu Indah, Ubud
There’s no plastic at Bambu Indah. Plates are banana leaves, straws are papaya stems, the path lamps run on used cooking oil and its founders also started the Green School. Guests sleep in houses, nests and tents, with natural swimming pools, guided walks and rice harvesting, or can visit on a day pass.
Bali Eco Stay
8. Gdas Bali Health & Wellness Resort, Ubud
Gdas recycles, keeps an organic garden, hires and funds locally, and runs beach clean-ups. Its three, seven and 11-day stays focus on balancing body and mind, with yoga in its shala and hot studio and treatments at its spa, and run all year.
9. Bumi Cinta, North Bali
On Bali’s quieter north coast, Bumi Cinta keeps corridors of land wild for local wildlife and grows its own food. Its bamboo bungalows, open-air yoga shala, sauna and plunge pools host group stays led by visiting teachers, such as a seven-day women’s getaway.
10. REVĪVŌ, Nusa Dua
This Nusa Dua wellness resort recycles, composts, practises permaculture and hires from or funds the local village. It supports the ROLE Foundation. Stays range from self-guided wellness breaks to a five-day Soul Revival programme, with spa treatments and movement and mindfulness classes.
