Nightcap Ridge Enters a New Chapter in the Byron Hinterland

Creative Director Adam Powell is quietly transforming Nightcap Ridge into one of Australia’s most thoughtfully curated rainforest retreats, where design, nature and memorable guest experiences come together in the Byron hinterland.

Set within the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia UNESCO World Heritage Area, Nightcap Ridge has long been a private retreat for weddings and overnight stays. Now, under Adam and partner Nick Bond, the 67-acre rainforest property has completed a significant glow up and is ready to be seen in a new light.

Powell has led a comprehensive redesign across the property, refreshing the Rose Gum and Blue Fig cottages in collaboration with Florabelle Living and Dulux, and elevating the Loggers Cabin and The Palm Room with a more considered, design-forward aesthetic.

The Palm Room, the property’s pavilion overlooking the lily ponds and rainforest floor, now sits at the heart of Nightcap Ridge’s events and gatherings offering. The property is also developing a growing collection of signature guest experiences, including The Golden Hour, a styled lily pond setup with local wine, a grazing platter, music and the kind of rainforest light that does most of the work for you.

Another development coming soon to each cottage is Nightcap’s Cabinet of Curiosities, a unique take on the traditional hotel mini-bar.

“From the moment we passed through the gates we fell head over heels,” Powell said. “It’s a rare proposition: accommodation and events, deep inside a national park. We’ve been welcoming guests since the day we moved in, working around them to implement all of these improvements. Now that everything’s in place, it’s so exciting to finally throw the doors open and show the world Nightcap Ridge at its best.”

Bond is an entertainment, culture and travel journalist who has embraced a new passion at Nightcap Ridge: making sure each guest has a truly memorable stay. He and Adam live on-site and are on hand as a valuable resource for guests, providing advice for things to do and see on the property and beyond.

Their passions go hand-in-hand: Nick curates the guest vinyl collection and old-school in-room movie library, while Adam brings his creative eye to the property’s spaces, styling and signature experiences.

“Every day I find an exciting new element of Nightcap I can’t wait to share with our guests,” Bond said. “Whether it’s spotting one of our resident koalas with a new joey, the first night the bioluminescent fungi appears on our walking trails, or seeing the flash of shimmering turquoise overhead that is Nightcap’s very own spectacular Bird of Paradise, the Riflebird. My best advice to all our guests is very simple: relax, slow down and let the magic of Nightcap Ridge reveal itself to you.”

Inside a World Heritage rainforest

Nightcap Ridge is one of the only private accommodation and events venues in Australia operating within a World Heritage national park. The 67 acres of ancient canopy, creek corridors, natural waterfalls and lily ponds are shared with a resident koala population, wallabies, echidnas, carpet pythons, goannas, and rare birdlife including the Albert’s Lyrebird. After dark, bioluminescent fungi light the rainforest walking trails.

The property operates entirely off-grid on solar power and rainwater harvesting, managed under Leave No Trace principles.

Be in nature, disconnect

Nightcap Ridge is designed as a nature-immersive experience. Mobile signal drops away across much of the property, while super-fast internet is available in each dwelling. Connect or don’t, it’s entirely up to you.

For people who’ve been craving a real escape rather than a managed one, this is it.
