A vibrant celebration of storytelling, culture and cinema returns this winter as the HSBC Spanish & Latin American Film Festival brings a dynamic line-up of films to screens across Australia — including Byron Bay and Ballina.
Now in its 29th year, the festival showcases a rich and diverse program of contemporary cinema from Spain and Latin America, featuring award-winning dramas, feel-good comedies, documentaries and historical epics.
Highlights from this year’s first release include:
Sundays (Los domingos) — a Golden Shell winner at the San Sebastián Film Festival, exploring a family in crisis
Nothing Between Us (Nada entre los dos) — a charming and intimate love story starring Gael García Bernal and Natalia Oreiro
The Captive (El cautivo) — an epic historical drama following a young Miguel de Cervantes
La Salsa Vive — a vibrant documentary tracing the global rhythm of salsa from New York to Colombia
Isabel — a Berlinale-featured drama set in São Paulo’s fine dining world
Another League (Pioneras) — an inspiring true story of women challenging the norms of football in 1970s Spain
With something for every kind of film lover — from sweeping epics to heartfelt human stories — the festival offers a chance to experience the energy, emotion and artistry of Spanish and Latin American cinema on the big screen.
Screenings taking place nationally from 10 June to 12 July, including a Northern Rivers run from 18 June.
